Inkerman & Nelson has been developed around a core ethos of intuitive, flexible living. The latest addition from ICON Developments, this series of homes continues the company’s tradition of creating highly considered spaces that want to be lived in. This project sees ICON uniting with design firms MAArchitects and Eckersley Garden Architecture to create beautifully crafted homes, within a purposefully designed new village.
In keeping with the general mood and architectural edge of its locale, from the outset Inkerman & Nelson is bold and yet coherent with the streetscape. Presenting as six stand-alone yet interwoven buildings, each distinct facade draws on its unique surrounds for inspiration.
Defined by a spacious, flexible floorplan, the townhomes have been optimised for northern orientation and are benefited by individual street addresses or secure laneway access. Designed by MAArchitects to wear in beautifully, each light filled home will feature two, three or four bedrooms, and with a variety of floor plans available including whole floor living zones on either the ground or second floor with a dual aspect and leafy outlook.
A series of simple pergolas create distinction between the public and private realms while also articulating a framework for the abundant planting. Demarcating a lush garden at eye-level, the feature culminates at an inviting tree that sits at the heart of the garden; offering opportunities for connection between neighbours, or merely a moment to appreciate as you go about your day.
The private gardens are an extension of the home, with planting areas to maximise the usable space and create green fencing around the perimeter. This ensures the gardens are low maintenance but still provide visual joy, including your own tree to provide shade and create beautifully dappled light. North facing rooftop decks are also available on the Inkerman Street homes, offering stunning panoramic views across the neighbourhood.
Continuing ICON’s tradition of creating highly intuitive homes for growing, modern families, MAArchitects have created houses that speak not just for today and tomorrow, but for whatever surprises or transformations that might be on the horizon.
Conscious of the ever-evolving demands of growing families, living spaces are generously proportioned with greater ceiling heights and full height windows. These light-filled homes include beautiful bespoke kitchens and further customisable joinery options so you can make your home yours. Each home features a family bathroom with a bath, ensuite, a separate laundry and some with a powder room. In addition to large bedrooms, there is a sun-drenched flexible room with endless possibilities - parents retreat, study, second living or even a nursey.
The importance of sustainability has been considered from the outset. With an enviable building efficiency rating of 6.5 stars, Inkerman & Nelson includes features such as rainwater harvesting, ceiling fans, optional solar panels and electric car charging facilities.
Rated as one of Melbourne’s ‘most walkable’ enclaves, along both Carlisle and Inkerman Streets you’ll find abundant opportunity for simplifying or adding flavour to your life. A mere stone’s throw and you’ll find; parks, artisanal delis, burger joints, supermarkets, doctors clinics, schooling and public transport means.
With over 20 years of development experience, ICON has forged a reputation crafting and delivering smart, meticulously designed spaces. Innovative, collaborative design is at the centre of everything ICON does. It is through this approach that they enhance individual lifestyles and enrich local communities, all the while positively redefining the city skyline. Inkerman & Nelson exemplifies this in its every articulation, from ensuring the project would contribute positively to the fabric of its locale to consulting families on the types of features they value in homes.
MAArchitects is widely regarded as one of Melbourne’s most progressive design studios. Their reputation is built on a commitment to craft, experimentation and authenticity of materials. They create spaces you want to live, work and play in. Sharing a vision for conceiving beautiful, intuitive homes that stand the test of time, ICON and MAArchitects have now collaborated on an innovative series of projects that continue to impress. Inkerman & Nelson follows on from Harper Lane, 78 Inkerman, St Kilda which, found just a stone’s throw away, is emblematic of ICON and MAA’s desire to design homes that age beautifully.
Established by iconic designer Rick Eckersley, with partners Scott Leung and Myles Broad, Eckersley Garden Architecture understands how space and facility work together. With a horticultural focus, they create relaxed and tactile gardens that invite clients to enjoy their outdoor space. Having worked extensively with MAArchitects, Eckersley Garden Architecture were a natural choice for Inkerman & Nelson. Their distinct interpretation of “family” styled gardens moves away from traditional multi-residential landscaping to ensure each space is made to feel like a stand-alone home.
